Why does my drive show less than the size on the box?

Drives are marketed in decimal GB (1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes) but operating systems count in binary (1 GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes), and formatting reserves space. So a '1 TB' drive shows ~931 GiB usable — about 7% less. This calculator already accounts for that.
